ABOUT US

When it comes to eagle rings, Mike Carroll is regarded as one of the world's most progressive jewelry talents. He designed his first ring in the cockpit of an airplane at 24,000 feet. Carroll came up with the idea to create rings with an eagle motif about a dozen years ago during a flight between Chicago and a small town in Florida. “I used to fly the Chicago/Florida route on a regular basis,” he said. “As most pilots would agree, long flights are really ‘hours of boredom punctuated by moments of terror'. I actually sketched my first design during one of those flights – the boring part.”

Carroll is known for his passion for flight and all forms of transportation. He drives tractors, trucks, Harleys, boats and planes. He is also passionate about his patriotism and is able to express it through his eagle ring collection styled after well-known Americana. "My U.S. eagle rings recognize those who love their country and are proud to show it. There are a lot of people who want to show their patriotism. This is a great way to do it. Rings can be a very personal thing.”

Many of Carroll's designs were inspired from the eagles found on bank buildings, post offices, old coins and badges. With names like Liberty, Republic and Patriot , the rings were hand-sculptured to commemorate periods, icons and organizations of the United States. An Illinois native, Carroll's jewelry line is limited to 31 rings, incorporating a variety of eagles styled after well-known Americana. “I've always been interested in symbols of the United States. I started to frequent antique stores looking for images of eagles from old currency and historic military buttons,” he said. “I picked up an old police badge in Florida from the turn of the 19th century that appealed to me.” The ring he named Liberty features an eagle similar to the one depicted on that badge. All 31 of his rings have a name benefiting the image such as Republic, Mariner and Centurion . Naturally, he has named a ring Senator in honor of his father, the late Senator John Carroll of Illinois.

Carroll said he made his first ring for himself. Without a formal education in jewelry making, he enrolled in local classes to perfect his first design he created in his plane. He worked with some of Chicago's top jewelry crafters and designers. “Most jewelers focus on popular 'fashion' designs. They were helpful and non-threatened by my original eagle designs.” His 'hobby turned business' started taking off as family and acquaintances responded to his ring. Carroll felt compelled to create a top quality ring design for his family and friends in the US Marine Corps. Carroll boasts Marine to be 'The Finest USMC ring out there. Period.' "Our military designs are not typical of other military styled rings on the market. I wanted to design military rings with classic and strong imagery depicting the symbols of the American bald eagle as specific to each branch of the Armed Forces. I wanted to design my military rings so that a person could continue to wear and pass it down to future generations as a tribute to the history, culture and heritage of The United States. My eagle ring collection salutes the dedicated men and women who serve(d) in the Armed Forces, and also recognizes the everyday citizen, who loves their country and is proud to show it," says Carroll.

Each eagle ring, womens and mens rings, in the collection was created utilizing the ancient art of lost wax casting. Lost wax casting is a jewelry making method used by the finest jewelers in the world. It is where the ultimate beauty of a fine piece of jewelry originates.

The original ring design begins as a sketch on paper. Then it is painstakingly hand-carved out of a single piece of wax. With surgical precision and careful attention to detail, every feather, shield and shape is intricately carved into a three-dimensional model. Some actually took weeks to complete. Even the most sophisticated jewelry companies in the world do not have the ability to produce such finely detailed sculptures.

After the wax model is completed, it is enclosed in a plaster mold that is fired in a furnace that vaporizes the wax. Molten metal is then poured into the mold's cavity using centrifugal force. When carefully cooled, the metal perfectly reproduces the hand carved wax model, thus called the ancient art of lost wax carving. A mold is then made from this metal model to cast single or multiple editions of the piece in sterling silver or gold. After our American eagle ring is cast to our customer's exact size and specifications, it is polished by hand and stamped with USA and 10k, 14k, or 18 karat solid gold or sterling silver (.925) marking.

    WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY...

Mike, I've been driving a local jeweler crazy for about seven months going through his five or six 40 year old castings catalogs from the major jewelers in New York and New Jersey, but all he could find was the eagle on the WWII jacket buttons. I found your company on the net and I haven't looked back. Old Abe arrived yesterday and I'm blown away. It's beyond anything I'd ever expected.

When we guys approach jewelry, it's best done very carefully - there's lots of garbage out there and not much a vet or patriot would really consider wearing regularly. Your rings are in the area of fine sculpture and I can't believe regular folks can just purchase one. I don't have to tell you this stuff - you already know how far ahead you are from your competition - 45 years of men's rings castings catalogs couldn't touch your stuff. I'm grateful and will be ordering something else in the near future.
